Twitter

I spent quite a lot of time trying to figure out what Twitter is all about and how I could use it. There are some people who have interesting thoughts to share with others and people who like to post everything they do. As a result of my research, I could not see myself using this website other than maybe out of curiosity during my extra free time. Although, I did like the variety of business posts because I think they are very useful. For example, I liked CPL Twitters, for it is a fresh and modern way to keep customers, especially youth, plugged in.

Library Thing

Library Thing is a great site, I enjoy it a great deal, and I am very happy to learn about it. I see myself using this site in near future, and I will probably use it with my younger son. I know some of our customers already use it and if I am asked I will recommend this site to other customers.

Online Productivity Tools

It was very nice to learn about Google Calendar and Google Documents.
I am most likely not going to use the Calendar tool. I think it is very useful for people whose calendar filled with business events, meetings and trips. I will stick with my paper calendar, because it is always with me and I don't need the computer to check my schedule.
As for Google Documents, I do like it and I can use it for sure. It was very easy for me to create a document and now I can open and use it on any computer if I need to. All I have to do is remember my registration information.

Flickr & YouTube

I did not use Flickr before. Now, I learned how to use it and I will become a member of the website. Every single detail is accessible even for a "newbie" like me. I like this site because I have family and friends abroad and it gives me an excellent opportunity to share our photos with them.
I am a fairly frequent user of YouTube. I do like it very much. It provides its users with an enormous amount of videos of various categories. For example, we use this site for crafting, cooking, music, DIY, and "How to". Also we are subscribed to a few other YouTube users' videos. I think that YouTube is an efficient user friendly and extremely popular website.

RSS

In general, the website is very user friendly and opening the Bloglines account was not difficult at all. I like what it offers. It's very convenient to have all updates from different blogs or sites on 1 page. It was a new experience for me although I am probably not going to use it because RSS does not have access to the sites I follow. But I will my eye on it and if the sites I use link to the RSS feeds, I will try to use it.

Google product

"Google products are so much fun!" It is true. Google makes all kinds of different information easily accessible. For example, blogs, images, videos, maps, translations ext. I love to use Google and I use it all the time. There is no need to recommend it to my friends because they already use it.

Google Earth is an amazing program! I was able to see my home town and city where I spend my university years. It was a warm and touching trip ( even though it wasn't real). Together with my kids we saw the Grand Canyon in 3D. It was very beautiful, so we are planning to go there.

Social networking

For you, is Facebook useful or a time-waster?

I think it could be both. On one hand it is very useful because people can keep in touch with friends and family. For example, most of my family and friends are in Russia, so I use Facebook a lot. On the other hand, there are so many interesting (some time not so useful) things you can do aside from conversations and mailing. After a wile I learned to do quickly what I need and do not bother with other thingth.

Wikipedia

• How easy or difficult was it to find articles that needed editing? Were the errors you found factual or grammar / spelling?

In comparison to “Delicious”, I know Wikipedia pretty well and use it a lot for many different purposes. Wikipedia covers a colossal amount of different topics, and I could not find a subject it does not talk about. Because I am a cat person, I found an article about this pet in Russian. I tried adding some information to that article (it was very easy), but I did not submit it because that piece of information was not very significant. In many cases I can find the meaning to a word even in Russian using Wikipedia. On the other hand, if I am looking for important information, I will not rely completely on Wikipedia, because anyone could edit the articles and provide incorrect information.

Best Websites

• How comfortable are you using Best Websites, after this practice? Do you have any tips for using Best Websites on Delicious?

This is very new to me and I spend time for practicing. Now I can see how it is used by other people. “Delicious” helps to organize searching and to keep one’s favorite web sites. It works like “Favorite” but can be easily accessed from any computer. I am sure, this is a very important asset to the Information Desk staff, and not so much for Circulation.
